General Information about Courses and Teaching

Academic Quarter

The department uses the "academic quarter" policy which means that lectures and seminars scheduled on the hour begin at quarter past. Each lecture hour is 45 minutes. If the schedule says 14–16, then you will begin class at 14:15 and the teaching will be in two 45-minute segments. Please note that this rule does not apply to examinations, which are always written at the exact time.

Course Literature - Where can you find it? Where can you buy it?

Literature lists for each course are available as part of the course syllabus which can be found in the Student Portal. It is generally specified if the literature needs to be purchased via the teacher or at the Departmental Office (such as lexicons, compendiums). Course books are available for purchase online or from the two main book stores in Uppsala. Both Studentbokhandeln and Akademibokhandeln LundeQ are notified before each term begins of which books students will be required to have.

Course evaluations

Course evaluations are usually done half-way through and at the end of the course. The final evaluation is a written evaluation and either handed out by the teacher during the final lecture or completed in the Student Portal. These evaluations in no way replace the ongoing discussions with the course teachers, program council, or the Director of Studies regarding the contents or instruction during a course.
