Language Technology in Law Enforcement

How can language technology be used to combat crime? What are the major applications and challenges? Representatives from the IT-department of the Swedish Police Authority will give examples on how language technology can be used for gathering and analysis of open source intelligence (OSINT). Working with law enforcement and intelligence offers some unique challenges, as there are strict regulations regarding things such as storage and usage of sensitive data without consent. There are also serious ethical concerns, such as different kinds of bias, as well security concerns that need to be addressed when applying language technology in the fight against crime.
